When you google "how many women in Canada will get breast cancer" the first thing that pops up says "1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their lifetime". I know of 5 women in my life who have had it or are currently fighting it. So:

Today I am running for Bev who got breast cancer and survived. I am running for my Oma who got breast cancer and survived. I am running for my friend Leanne who got breast cancer while she was pregnant with her first child and survived. I am running for my friend Leah who is currently battling breast cancer. I am running for my friends sister Debbie, who got breast cancer and is still fighting.

But most importantly, today I'm running for my mother. My beautiful, crazy, amazing and strong mother, who is in hospice care, living the rest of her life, because of breast cancer. This incredible woman who has shown me what it is like to fight. You are forever in my heart. I am running for the countless other men and women who have it. I am running because if we can find a cure, or a way to prevent it, then I will run. I will run so we don't have to feel this pain anymore.
