Sixteen years ago in Toronto, I started running for my mom - Virginia - as a way to honour her during her fight with breast cancer. She was in remission at the time. A few runs later, I came home to surprise her and share her first CIBC Walk for the Cure experience in Vancouver with our family, our team. This event meant so much to her, to be surrounded by so many that have been touched by breast cancer in some way, directly or otherwise.

This year, I will run with her only grandson, Monty, who I hope will know his "Lola" through me, his mother. We will continue to honour mom's memory, her strength and courage. Her fight. Her unwillingness to stop living and loving every moment of her life every step of the way.

Every day, 70 Canadians will hear the words "you have breast cancer." While these Canadians are living longer, healthier lives after a breast cancer diagnosis, but there is still so much work to be done.

By participating in this year's Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, I'm joining a collective that is a force-for-life in the face of breast cancer. I'm running in honour of the incredible people in my life, and I need your help!
