This photo was taken 20 years ago on my wedding day. A year after Mum’s breast cancer returned.

When she told me her cancer was back, I couldn’t take it in. My mind raced ahead, thinking the absolute worst. I was terrified that I’d lose her. Devastated that we wouldn’t share life’s little moments and big occasions, like my wedding.

But thanks to advances in breast cancer treatment and care, Mum lived for another ten years. Not only was she there for my wedding day, but she made it to Sonja’s wedding, and the births of her four grandchildren.

Breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women, touching the lives of so many every day.

By raising money through the Run for the Cure we can help reduce the number of people diagnosed with breast cancer, reduce mortality for those who develop the disease, and improve the quality of life for those affected.

On Sunday, October 6th I’ll be taking part and continuing our tradition.
