Cancer sucks! Last year I was diagnosed with Breast cancer. I was very fortunate that it was caught early. The screening program I was a part of saved my life. I truely believe that without being part of this program, I would not have known until it was way too late. My sister, grandmothers, cousins and many other important people in my life have all been affected by breast cancer. 

In reality, almost everyone has been affected by a cancer diagnosis in some way. It was estimated that in 2022, every day 78 Canadian women would hear the words “you have breast cancer.” That equals over 28,000 women as well as 270 men to be diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Breaking it down further, 1 in 8 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. While these Canadians are living longer, healthier lives after a breast cancer diagnosis, there is still so much work to be done.

I support all of the men and women diagnosed each year; those that are survivors, those that we have lost, those living with it, fighting it, and all of their loved ones. By participating in this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, I am running in honour of these incredible people and the fact that fundraising for breast cancer research and support is prolonging and saving lives, including my own!

Every dollar makes a difference. Your donation will fund the best breast cancer research in Canada and a vitally important support system that helps people with breast cancer and their families nationwide. Since the CIBC Run for the Cure began, Canadians have raised over $471 million for the breast cancer cause. With these funds, over $432 million has been invested in groundbreaking breast cancer research that enables a new understanding of breast cancer and better treatment and patient outcomes. Each dollar raised for this cause will help make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with breast cancer. These include:

• funding groundbreaking breast cancer research that will help more people live with and beyond cancer; 
• shape health policies to prevent breast cancer and support those living with the disease;
• provide a national support system, so no one has to face breast cancer alone.

Together, we can show Canadians facing breast cancer that we will never stop running!
