In April 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Further, it was a rare form of breast cancer which was devastating for my husband and me. Our children were only 4 and 6 at the time, so sharing “mommy's” sickness with them was difficult. They didn’t really understand what I was going through but knew something was wrong because I had no more hair. I was determined to fight for my life so I could be around for my family and be there as my children grew up. Cancer Care Manitoba helped me and my family fight this terrible illness. They have incredible support programs. From nurses explaining to me what to expect on my journey, to the oncologists, surgeons, dietitians, as well as the "Look Good Feel Good" program. If it wasn't for all of them, I wouldn't be here today.

More so, if it wasn’t for the millions of dollars in monies donated to the researchers to find a cure for this disease, I might not be here today. 25 years ago, my cancer had a much lower percentage of success. 

Now 10 years of being cancer free and being grateful for life with my husband and children, I would like to pay it forward with your help. To show my support for the thousands of Canadians diagnosed with breast cancer every year, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure.
