On September 29th, 2021, I had my first mammogram at 46 years old.  In a million years I would have never expected that 6 weeks later I would join the estimated 27,700 women and 260 men that are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Canada.

I was fortunate. My treatment was in Halifax where I live. But many women in Nova Scotia have to travel an hour or more to Halifax or Syndey for their surgery and treatments. The Canadian Cancer Society aids these women through the Lodge That Gives Back by giving them a place to stay while they are undergoing treatment in the city.

A cancer diagnosis turns your world upside down. Access to reliable information and support services can help make an already difficult situation a little easier. I frequently turned to publications from the Canadian Cancer Society as I prepared for appointments and treatments to help me understand and prepare, and to know what questions to ask of my providers.

To show my support for all Canadians impacted by breast cancer, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 6, 2024. 

Every dollar raised funds groundbreaking breast cancer research and support programs and services for those impacted by this disease. 

Together, we can give Canadians impacted by breast cancer a reason to have hope. And we can help change the future for all.
