An estimated 27,700 women and 260 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Canada. Depending on where you live in this country, your healthcare varies. Postal code should not dictate the level of women’s health.

The current Nova Scotia government denies women with dense breasts supplemental screening. My “clear” mammogram in late 2021 missed my tumor, my doctor ignored my dense breast tissue and my later bone pain as “menopausal” . I found my own tumor and was diagnosed metastatic (extensive bone metastases) in spring of 2023. 

Teams and donors across the country raise funds for research that improve treatment options for breast cancer. Metastatic Breast Cancer is underfunded - Stage IV deserves more. 

I am running for my friends and family, including my daughter Gracie and my mom Doris. I also run for Marie DeYoung and all friends and colleagues passed and present living lives with breast cancer.  

Thanks to my friend Patti and all the work she has done leading the CIBC team over the years to raise funding. This year I support the CIBC and am running with the Pink Panthers HRM and the wonderful women I have met through this support group. See you Oct. 6th!
