I participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure in memory of my mom who passed away on Dec 17th, 2019. The photos are from 2018 when my mom joined me even though she could only do the 1km and it was such a pleasure meeting the other women on the team that came out and supported each other and wanted to raise awareness.

I raise funds to support those with Metastatic Breast Cancer. I have seen this event evolve to be more inclusive of those with MBC by directing funds raised by MBC teams to the Canadian Cancer Society Future Funds supporting Metastatic Cancer, renaming the survivor tent to the tent of hope, creating a participant sticker for those with MBC acknowledging they exist too and having spotlights on MBC patients in publications. I know my mom would have had appreciation for these changes and I wish she’d been able to see them. 

My mom & I weren’t into the pink or “warrior” language however she found support and inspiration from others with MBC who even as they were going through treatment or coming to the end of their lives they wanted to participate and push for change.

My mom was my biggest supporter and knowing how much she wanted to participate in this event for MBC motivates me to continue to join in.
