This year, I’m running for me.

After enduring a double mastectomy, a second emergency surgery due to complications, radiation, countless appointments, etc, I am more determined than ever to prevent others from facing this journey.  Right now 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer so I will keep spreading the word and raising funds to help lower that number.

I was pushed aside, ignored and not given a mammogram in the 3 years I tried getting one after feeling a lump and having a significant family history. Once they finally did one, it was huge and a tiny amount in my lymphnode.  The surgery and treatment looked much different than it should have.

For 19 years, I have dedicated my runs to family, friends, and their loved ones. On October 6th the Pink Pals team will be participating in our 20th year at the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure.

I am walking for me this year but I'm also still walking for my mom, my aunts, my cousins, my godmother, my friends, their families and all the women in my family

Check your breasts, encourage others to do the same, and if something feels off, speak up and advocate for a mammogram.  Please don't think you're too young, you can't be checked because you're nursing or any of the other reasons you may be putting it off.
