My Breast Cancer Journey

My name is Danielle Singh and I am 36

I am a mother of 4 beautiful children

I am a wife to a loving husband

I am an aunt to 7 nephews and 6 nieces

I am the oldest sister of 4

I am a loving daughter with caring parents

I am a lifetime friend to many I've met

February 12th I found a lump on my breast

March 4th I was diagnosed with stage 3 HER2 negative breast cancer that had already spread to my right armpit (auxiliary) with a total of 5 cancer tumors.

My care was then taken over by Princess Margaret where my team acted quickly and started my chemotherapy on April 5th.

Being on chemo is a mental and physical break down. It's trying on both the patient and all of their family. My family watched me fight at my weakest moments and witnessed my positive outlook on life and what really matters.

I braved the shave, the nausea, depression, memory fog, bone aches, personal appearance changes, mammograms, biopsies and everything in between.
I refused to let this disease take me over.

I continued to work full time, mother full time, woke up and showed up for my self and my family as I will always do.

July 11th was my 8th and last chemotherapy treatment. We celebrated the accomplishment of making it through and we were hopeful for what was to come. My oncology team believed my body was fully responsive and we were hoping it had melted away.

July 13th I had my MRI to see if chemo had melted my tumors away

July 16th I found out my tumors were not gone and we needed to act quickly to remove what was left

August 12th was my first surgery (ever)

I had a lumpectomy, where they removed what was left of my tumors in my breast and removed 7 lymph nodes from my right armpit.

I was then in recovery stage awaiting my pathology results. These are results from the tissue and tumors taken from your body during surgery. They test everything and you receive the results.

Sept 5th I received a call from my Oncologist. After meeting with the board and going over my pathology they'd discovered something that shocked them.

My cancer had now changed into HER2 positive breast cancer meaning I would need a different treatment plan to beat this.
My team acted quickly and scheduled me for my first antibody infusion treatment to start asap and continue for the next year.

The results also showed precancerous tissues along with the cancerous tumors they had removed.

Because of these findings I was schedule for a rush surgery to remove all of my lymph nodes in my right armpit (complete auxiliary dissection)

Sept 12th I received my first treatment for antibody infusion and met with my surgeon to go over surgery and recovery

Sept 27th I went in for my 2nd surgery

This one has proven to be a lot more difficult to heal from. I am managing a drainage bag along with the pain and trying to stay positive and somewhat mobile.

What the future holds has proven to be unpredictable. I have learned on my path that our care is heavily depended on to get us through our hardest times. I am lucky to have the professional care team I have at Princess Margaret and I believe it's fundraisers like these that bring awareness to how much more help we need with finding cures.
