This will be the 6th year that my family is walking in the CIBC Run for the Cure. Each year I try to summarize why we walk. The easy answer is to raise funds for research so that treatments improve, and lives are saved. Lives like mine. But my real answer is this...

Sometimes, I like to sit alone in the quiet of the early morning.

When no is up yet. I let the dog outside and stop to feel the crisp air on my face. I watch the leaves rustle in the breeze, and the clouds move slowly across the sky that is just kissed with a touch of daylight.

Some days it lasts a few seconds.

Some days a few minutes.

But every time, I am left with a feeling of hope. I have another day. And for that moment I am grateful. Fleeting as it might be once it's lost in the chaos of the day, schedules and meetings, it brings me back to me.

Against the odds, I am here.

I fight every day to be here.

And each morning I meet victory.

Everyone deserves this moment; to feel the crisp air fill their lungs with life and their heart with hope for another victorious morning.

This is why I walk.

Because I can.
