I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 6, 2024 to show support for my daughter Julie and the many family and friends who have been affected by breast cancer.

1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. The breast cancer death rate peaked in 1986 and has been declining since. This reduction reflects the impact of screening and improvements in treatment for breast cancer. Nevertheless, recently, younger women are being diagnosed with breast cancer so that mammography is now recommended after reaching the age of 40.

Every dollar raised helps to fund promising cancer research, to advocate for policies that protect the health of Canadians, and to provide a vital support system to people with cancer and their families.

I believe even better treatment options and survival outcomes are possible, giving Canadians impacted by breast cancer a reason to have hope and helping to improve the future for all.
