The photo you’re looking at is of my mom and I at the CIBC Run for the Cure in 2015. Little did we know that just five years later, in May 2020, I would lose her to breast cancer.

For those who didn’t know my mom, Kelly, she was a beacon of light in every room she entered. Her smile could brighten the darkest of days, and she was the embodiment of selflessness, ALWAYS putting others first. She was deeply passionate about women’s basketball and athletics, and she inspired everyone around her with her energy and love for life.

This year, with those traits in mind and with support of my university roommates, we’ve decided to participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure to honor her memory and to continue her fight. We run for a world without cancer, for the hope of a future where no one has to go through the pain she did.
