Following my routine mammogram in early January 2023, things progressed with further mammograms, ultrasounds and a biopsy

By the end of March, I had surgery to remove the lump.  After a follow up visit with the Medical Oncologist in Windsor, it was determined that my breast cancer was Grade 3 (very aggressive).  Chemotherapy and Radiation were the treatments I would need to have to try to beat my diagnosis.  Certainly not the news I was expecting to hear.

On May 2nd, 2023, I began my Chemo treatments in Chatham.  Certainly, a frightening experience to face, but with the care and attention of the amazing medical staff and the support and encouragement I received from family, friends, neighbours and co-workers, I made it through the eight (8) treatments (once every other week). The first four (4) were the most difficult on my body, resulting in me receiving two (2) units of blood to help raise my hemoglobin levels that had dropped to a level of 67.  On August 15th, I received my last Chemo treatment and was able to "ring the bell", to celebrate!  After a few weeks of rest, I began my radiation treatments, 19 of them.  Everyday, Monday thru Friday, my husband Kevin drove me to my treatments in Windsor.

Finally, on October 20th, 2023, I received my last radiation treatment and was able to "hit the gong"!

It definitely has been a journey, from feeling ill, losing my appetite and even losing all my hair, but I never lost hope.  God is good and I am very grateful to be able to be here and to participate in this fundraising event.
