My story began on June 28th 2017 when I received the news you should never have to hear at any age never mind at 37 years old. "You have breast cancer!".

I was diagnosed June 28 2017 at the age of 37 with what was thought to be very common invasive ductal carcinoma with positive nodes. I had a lumpectomy and axillary node dissection July 12 2017. Pathology results came back with clear margins and 1 of 15 nodes positive. However I was diagnosed with a rare stage 2B invasive medullary carcinoma that was also triple negative. I have done 16 chemo treatments and 30 rounds of radiation. I have received my genetic testing results and have a BRIP1 gene mutation this is one of the new genes they have started testing for in the last few years. It is connected to the brca1 gene but research is still in the works. They know it's connected to breast cancer but has a higher risk of ovarian cancer. I had only fallopian tubes removed July 2018, Dr advise to keep ovaries another 5 years. Double mastectomy and Diep Flap reconstruction as a preventive measure due to gene mutation on June 27th 2019.

Every day, 70 Canadians will hear the words "you have breast cancer." While these Canadians are living longer, healthier lives after a breast cancer diagnosis, but there is still so much work to be done.
