As most of you know, I am a Survivor of Premenopausal Bi-Lateral Breast Cancer.  The diagnosis I received at age 45 was both terrifying and shocking.  I learned how to become my own advocate to navigate the health care process including dignostic imaging, medical doctors appointments, biopsy surgeries, lumpectomy surgeries, chemo and radiation therapies.  The hardest part was the unknown.  Once a plan was in place by the wonderful medical team at the Odette Cancer Centre (Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto) I realized that my hope of survival was attainable and their optimism was authentic.  I knew that I was in the best care, with the most knowledgable and compassionate medical team.

 

Today, I am 15 years cancer free and have been able to raise my boys to adulthood and continue to grow old with my loving and supportive husband, Gary.

 

I will be supporting the thousands of Canadians diagnosed with breast cancer every year, as I participate and fundraise for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure.
