Turning 50 last year came with a whole gamut of responsibilities regarding my health, including my first mammogram which identified a suspicious lump. A biopsy of the lump delivered good and bad news: the lump is not malignant, but it does have precancerous cells. I will be having the lump removed on August 7th this summer. After recovery I will start training for this run. Those who know me know that I have participated in many 5 km runs, but this one feels especially poignant.

To show my appreciation for the early detection of this potentially life threatening disease, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. I am grateful for Ontario's Breast Screening Program and the care provided by the Breast Care Program at St. Joseph's Hospital.
