Every day, 70 Canadians will hear the words “you have breast cancer.” While these Canadians are living longer, healthier lives after a breast cancer diagnosis, but there is still so much work to be done. 

For over ten years (I have lost count),  I have been apart of the CIBC Run for the Cure in a volunteer position. When my mother was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer almost five years ago, it became personal and I eventually stepped up my role as co-Run director. This role is basically a part-time job (non paying) that consumes my life, but is VERY worth it! This year, I have decided to step down from this role, but continue to support the commitee in planning this amazing event.

 Each year, participation in this event is as rewarding as the last. While I wish I could see my mother joining the breast cancer survivors on the stage at Victoria Park on Run day,  I still look forward to seeing the parade of HOPE each year! I know if she was there, she will likely still be giving the middle finger to breast cancer! So while she isn't here to continue to fight with amazing strength and humour, I will do it for her!
