This year I am participating in my 6th Run for the Cure.  I started my run for the cure journey in 2018 running in honour of a wonderful sister-friend who, at 31, had been diagnosed with stage III triple-negative breast cancer a few months prior to the run. It is hard to explain how great Caitlin was in a paragraph, but I will try my best. Cait was funny, smart, kind and always had a recommendation for a romantasy novel. She was a stepmother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, HR professional, yoga practitioner, explorer, watcher of very corny romantic movies and so much more. I had known her my whole life and am lucky to have had her as a friend.

In the time between June 2018 and 2019, Caitlin had many treatments including what felt like endless rounds of chemo, a mastectomy, and radiation. About 6 months after diagnosis, she found out the cancer had metastasised to her lungs and brain. She was then diagnosed as stage IV.  Caitlin continued to be an advocate both for herself and other cancer patients, she continued to live her life to the fullest. Unfortunately, she passed away in June of 2019 and we miss her dearly. 
 
This year, we are running for Caitlin again, this time in her memory. Caitlin spent a lot of time as a cancer patient advocating for herself and other cancer patients, she donated money raised for her to cancer centres that treated her, and she participated in run for the cure. We look to continue this legacy by participating this year and fundraising to continue research into a cure.
