The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that 30,500 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. I asked my doctor for early screening in 2021. I did not have any symptoms. I was told that I wasn’t high risk but I could have a mammogram once things improved with the pandemic. I continued to advocate for myself and I had my first mammogram in the summer of 2022, which then lead to significant surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. I’m so grateful for the treatment that I received and continue to receive from the amazing medical team at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Please, remember to always put your health first. You can speak to your doctor about your risk and ask for early screening. If you are already being screened, please remember to get your mammogram regularly. Advocate for yourself and remind all the women in your life to do the same. Early detection is key. It will save your life.
