My story (for the CIBC Breast Cancer Race) updaqted July 31st, 2022

On July 19, 2019 I learned that I had stage 3C breast cancer, hormone positive and inflammatory. I am happy to still be alive after 4 years and back to work after 2 surgeries plus chemo and radiation treatments. This year I re-registered for the CIBC run (walk for me). After my parents also had cancer and having worked for a few years in a medical library, I recognize that research is very important in order to improve treatments for patients and give them a longer life expectancy. We don't necessarily realize until it happens to us.

My father, 16 years ago, had stage 4 prostate cancer and in March 2022 he had rectal cancer for which he underwent an operation. In 2021 my mother learned that she had cardiac amyloid and multiple myeloma, 1 person in 1,000,000 would have a diagnosis of this kind. She started her chemo in November 2021 and she will be at it until September 1, 2022. My mother is currently part of an international search project.

During my walk I will have a thought for my parents who proved to me that we can go through a lot and keep moving forward. I will therefore walk for them because they fought against their own cancer and knew how to encourage me during my own battle.

I would like to thank my spouse, my parents, my family, my spouse's children and their mother, all my friends who have given me great support. Above all, I must not forget my work colleagues who were also there to encourage me. My spouse's children may not realize it, but seeing them grow up and the time spent with them does me a lot of good.

In 2021 I lost a person who gave a lot of her time for cancer patients. Unfortunately, she died of cancer diagnosed too late to receive treatment. I had the chance to talk to her before she died; our conversation was very warm and I know that she left in peace. I will never forget her, she encouraged me to continue; I called her to encourage her without knowing that she had already learned that for her there was no longer any hope. She asked me to continue the fight and that's what I'm doing.

Don't be afraid of the word “cancer”; long life to you all my sisters. According to Doe Zantamata “Life is a fight! Good friends help you find important things when you have lost them: your smile, your hope and your courage. ”

This year, we are participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure so that we can beat breast cancer. We're running in honor of the amazing women in our lives, and we need your help!
