On Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, my dear friend of 40 years, Jennifer Beatty, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. 

Jen embodies the true essence of strength and resilience. As I watch her journey unfold, I'm witnessing a woman who faces adversity head-on, armed with courage, grace, and an unwavering spirit. Despite the daunting diagnosis, she will not allow fear to dim her light. Instead, she is transforming her pain into power and has become a fighter and an inspiration for others facing similar battles.

While I know Jen will beat this, I also know she does not want anyone else to have to go through what she's about to face with respect to treatment and its effects.

I am participating in this year's CIBC's Run for the Cure because I believe better treatment options and survival outcomes are possible. And I want to support all Canadians impacted by breast cancer, including my favourite person in the whole world, Jen.

I'm running with Jen's friends and family not only to show our love and support to her but also to the estimated 27,700 women and 260 men who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

With your help, I can help our team reach our fundraising goal and fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, and support programs and services for those impacted by this disease. Together, we can create a future without breast cancer. This is what Jen wants. This is what her friends and family want.
