When Kate and Geoff and Eric started Team Lisa in 2012 in my honour we had no idea whether or not I would see 2013.  Nobody knew.  I walked anyhow, but really didn’t identify myself as a ‘survivor’ at that point.  I wore a pink shirt with my name on it, and wondered about the people who walked by me in their pink shirts because they had ‘survived’.  Just finding out a tenth of the survivorship stories was enough to be know that our individual stories are what fuel our determination and events like this upcoming run are necessary to convert that determination into survival and give all people who are impacted by breast cancer hope.

I know what surviving means for me personally, and I have met others who identify as survivors, thrivers, supporters and just generally people who have been impacted by breast cancer.  The common thread is hope.  I am in a group of people who could easily have lost hope, but the advances and changes in treatment options are stunning.  I have witnessed a determination for all people who have been impacted by breast cancer, and this impact is far reaching. This past few months I have three friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer in various forms and various stages  I’m done being shocked and their news only renews my drive to participate in the run and get more treatment options  

This is why I am reaching out to you to support our fundraising efforts, or better yet, join Team Lisa and come out for the walk and brunch afterward.
