When I was 16, my mom—my best friend, my rock, and my everything was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. Throughout her battle, she was a constant source of reassurance, always telling me that everything would be alright. True to her fighting spirit, she overcame it and went into remission.

Three years later, the cancer returned, and this time it was different. Instead of facing it with silent strength, it became an undeniable presence in our lives. She lost much of what made her feel empowered and confident—her hair, her radiant skin, her strength, and her independence.

Thought she only given six months to live, she fought for two years with unwavering determination. Every day, she greeted the world with a radiant smile, continued to work, and spread love and positive energy to everyone around her. She effortlessly left her mark teaching those how important it is to enjoy life because it’s short, ALWAYS shine your light - it will either attract and inspire others or intimidate them and misunderstand you, and to prioritize the things that truly matter in life - family, love, helping others, learning, and being grounded. 

By participating in this year’s CIBC Run for the Cure, I’m joining a powerful movement against breast cancer. Your support will contribute to groundbreaking research and vital support programs for women affected by breast cancer. 

While I can’t find a cure on my own, together we can change the future of this disease and continue my mom’s legacy of leaving a mark in this world in hopes for a better day tomorrow - As my mom always said, "Smile, tomorrow will be a better day." Let’s cherish every moment and make a difference.
