I will be participating in this year's Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 6. Please join me in raising money to fund breast cancer research and the largest support system in the country for people affected by cancer.

While a lot of good work has been done in this area, the statistics are still haunting. One in 8 women are expected to develop breast cancer during their lifetime and it accounts for approximately 25% of new cases of cancer and 14% of all cancer deaths in Canadian women

I am part of those statistics.  I was diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer in July 2019, an aggressive form of cancer that had a poor prognosis until the introduction of a targeted form of treatment in Canada in 2005 (a drug called Herceptin).  There is also a newer targeted drug called Kadcyla, which which brings more hope to women with HER2+ breast cancer. There is still so much to do for all types of breast cancer.  Hopefully there will be a vaccine one day!

Research dollars save lives and improve outcomes for many women just like me.
