I was 25 years old when I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer for the first time, in 2016. I went through 6 months of chemotherapy, radiation, a mastectomy and 8 reconstructive surgeries. Just when I thought I was ready to close this chapter, cancer popped back as a new recurrence last year in October.

So we started 12 rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, planned for more surgery and hoped for the best. It wasn't any easier this time around managing all the side effects, especially as a mom to a 3 year old. Even though I am still getting immunotherapy, I am blessed to be a 2 times cancer survivor! I am incredibly lucky to have an amazing support system. But as I spent more time at the Cancer Centre, I realized that not is not the case for everyone unfortunately.

An estimated 27,700 women and 260 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Canada

So many patients rely on the Canadian Cancer Society for support such as rides to the hospital for treatments, help with meals, support with child-care, wigs or counselling. So many of us live with the fear of cancer coming back but the hope that there's new treatments coming up with all the research keeps us going. To keep the support and research going, funding is needed.
