I'm excited to be participating in the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure again this year – my second time participating! Last year, I was so blown away and touched by the support I received and the incredible generosity of donors. I was left – and continue to be – so full of hope for advancements in the prevention, detection, and treatment of breast cancer.

It is just over two years since my diagnosis of breast cancer and I’m so grateful to be doing well. It would have been a different story without the treatments I received and the years of research behind those treatments. I so greatly value research and this is a factor, in combination with the hope that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will have access to effective treatment, that motivates me to participate in the Run for the Cure.

That research cannot happen without funding though, and the Canadian Cancer Society, through generous donors, is the largest charitable funder of breast cancer research in Canada.

In addition to helping fund groundbreaking research, donations to the Run for the Cure will help the Canadian Cancer Society:
• provide a support system for people impacted by breast cancer;
• advocate for healthy policies to prevent breast cancer and support those living with the disease; and
• offer trusted breast cancer information.

I’ve chosen to participate again this year to continue in the footsteps of those people who have participated before me, who I have to thank for the money they raised which has benefitted me and so many others. I am participating again for everyone who has died from, survived, is dealing with, or will one day be diagnosed with breast cancer. I am participating because I continue to hope for a day when breast cancer never leads to death…and because I can.
