I am participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure again this year.  This time it’s personal. 

As I got ready to retire from CAAT Pension Plan this spring, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two weeks after finishing work, I had surgery that I consider nothing short of miraculous. I have spent the last 3 months recovering and getting stronger every day.  I am one of the lucky ones. Early detection meant my cancer was found very early and the surgery prevented it from spreading.  I am now cancer free and can focus on the next phase of my life – enjoying my retirement with my family and friends.

I have benefited from research that enabled early detection. After the shock from the news from my doctor, I used the Canadian Cancer Society’s website to learn all I could about breast cancer, treatment and what to expect. This helped me prepare for my surgery and recovery armed with information that enabled me to have a very positive outlook.

Please donate if you are able. In Canada, 1 out of every 8 women will face the news I did. Help them receive the support that I did, and hopefully they can have the same positive outcome.
