I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2023, only a month after receiving a normal mammogram result indicating I had dense breasts.  I thought I felt a small nodule in my breast and followed up with my GP, who sent me for an ultrasound.  A subsequent biopsy confirmed I had breast cancer.  In January 2024 I started chemotherapy/immunotherapy and completed 16 rounds at PMH before ringing the bell on June 19, 2024.  I had surgery at the end of July and pathology confirmed a complete response to treatment. I still have radiation treatment ahead of me to prevent recurrence but treatment should be complete before I Run for the Cure.

 

My treatment regimen was the result of a clinical trial completed only a few years ago.  I have enrolled in two clinical trials during my treatment in an effort to continue to advance breast cancer research.

 

To show support for the thousands of Canadians diagnosed with breast cancer every year, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure and will be running/walking on October 6th, 2024.
