My father, Rodney was one of the less than 1% of men diagnosed with breast cancer. We don’t really talk about male breast cancer, its rare but because we don’t talk about it, the diagnosis for many men, like my father, comes too late. My father lost his battle in 2015. Three years later his wife, my stepmother Stella also faced her own battle with this disease.

Stella’s devotion and care for my father throughout his illness still takes my breath away. She is the epitome of selflessness and is the most loving, thoughtful, generous grandmother to my children, Maggie and Graeme.

On October 11th Stella will mark her 70th birthday and on the 28th my dad would have been 82. My family and I will be walking with Stella in the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. We can’t think of a better way to honour her and to remember my father’s courageous fight.
