“You have breast cancer.”  Four little words I never imagined I would hear. Four little words that turned my world upside down in less than a second. Four little words I will never forget. Four little words that will not define me. 

On April 26th of this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had no symptoms. I just had a family doctor who genuinely cares about her patients and who does not agree with the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) recommendation. She saved my life.

I have participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure many times before to simply help raise money. But this year, I have decided to participate for myself. Even though my journey has only begun, I can already see and appreciate all the breast cancer research that has been done and is currently underway, as well as all the support services available to me and my family.

Cancer may have started the fight, but I will finish it. I will not let cancer beat me.
