I've been involved in the Run since 2016 both as a runner and a volunteer for the Toronto Run Committee. 

I lost my dad and many others in my family to cancer. During my dad's treatment in the Philippines, I saw my mom handle everything and how little support there was available. I knew I wanted to become involved somehow and give back. When I first attended the Run as a participant and saw the sense of hope and community, I thought 'this is it'. I signed up as a volunteer the following year. 

This year is special. I'm running for my good friend and colleague, Niloo. We've only known each for a couple of years, and in all that time she has been such an incredible light in my life. She's one of those type of people who make you feel like you've been in each other's lives forever.

She participates in the Run every year and feel strongly about the cause. She lost her mom to breast cancer and anxious knowing she and her daughter might be at risk as well.

Early this year, she got the most heart wrenching news - she's been diagnosed. My good friend, who is a wife, mom and sister has suddenly also become a patient. Despite her diagnosis, her bright light never dimmed. She's incredible and I am fortunate to be a witness to her journey. 

Due in part to the contributions to the breast cancer cause and the wonderful medical professionals who helped with her treatment and recovery, she is happy to share that she's cancer free! Now, she is also a survivor!
