Hi there! I'm Holly Beingessner, and this year marks my tenth CIBC Run for the Cure and my eighth year as the team captain for The B Team in Toronto. 

I first joined the run back in October 2015, just a few months after my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, I was wrapping up grade ten in Ottawa, and I wanted to do something meaningful to support her and other families affected by cancer. So, I signed up for the run with a friend and started raising funds and awareness. By December 2015, my mom was cancer-free!

In 2016, my parents joined me for the run—my mom and dad did the 1k walk while I tackled the 5k. I had just started grade twelve, and it felt great to have my family with me.

After high school, I moved to Toronto to study Interior Design with a Minor in Business Essentials at Ryerson University. During the summer after my first year (spring 2018), my mom's cancer came back. That summer, my Aunt Katie (my mom’s sister) started The B Team to honor my mom. The "B" stands for a lot of things: Beingessner, beautiful, breasts, babe, bodacious, brave, and cancer busters! In 2018, The B Team had groups across Canada—in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, London, and Kingston. I've been the team captain for Toronto ever since.

My mom beat cancer for the second time in September 2019. However, in November 2020, she learned that her cancer had returned for a third round, and she started chemotherapy again. Thankfully, she’s been off chemo since February 2024.

The CIBC Run for the Cure has always been a special way for us to rally together—friends, family, and the community—to show support for my mom and give her the hope and strength she needs to keep fighting.
