We are thrilled to come together again for this year’s Run for the Cure across the country on Sunday, October 6, 2024! 

I am the team captain of 1PinkArrows1 in Toronto I joined in 2023 because my parents and friends had cancer and I want to support cancer awareness. 

Back in 2020, our dear friend Lucia was diagnosed with breast cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic, and having experienced unique challenges within the healthcare system, she decided to bring her 25 years of advocacy experience into the field of patient advocacy. Fueled by her passion of supporting and empowering Deaf and hard of hearing people, she wants the same for their own cancer journeys. In our third year, we hope to have more people to join our team and spread awareness about breast cancer prevention, made accessible in ASL and LSQ.

To this end, in 2022, Lucia created a volunteer organization, 1PinkArrows1. Along the way, the organization has grown, made possible by Deaf talent and Deaf supporters. Even a local Deaf artist was commissioned to create its logo.

With the platform giving 1PinkArrows1 more opportunities, on social media and in the community, we all hope to build connections with Deaf and hard of hearing women across all ages and geographic locations in Canada, all connected together by their cancer journeys.
