To show my support for the thousands of Canadians diagnosed with breast cancer every year, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. 

I am walking for my incredible mother. In 2022, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a very stressful and emotional time, a time of unknowns. I was also getting married later that year, and all I wanted was for her to be present and healthy at my wedding. And boy…did she make sure that would happen. She underwent a major surgery, pushed through radiation, and started to battle the aftermath that comes from it. None of that stopped her from showing the most bravery and strength, so she could dance all night on my big day. 

I don’t think any of us consider the after effects when we think of breast cancer. We hear, “oh you’re cancer free! That means you are all better”. But this could not be farther from the truth. She had to undergo a second surgery, start a slew of medications that cause serious joint pains and other side effects, battle through fatigue, lymphedema, and perhaps a loss that none of us can understand. There is more to cancer than just having a tumour or not. 

My hope is that there will be more support for women not only as they go through cancer treatment, but helping them navigate the aftermath. With your help, I can reach my fundraising goal and make a life-changing difference for so many people. Every dollar I raise will fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and support programs and services for those impacted by this disease.
