To show my support for the thousands of Canadians diagnosed with breast cancer every year, I am participating and fundraising for this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. 

 

 

I am walking for my incredible Mom. She is the strongest woman I know and everything I have accomplished in life I owe it to her. My mom celebrated her 60th birthday in March of 2022 and it was a huge success. We made so many incredible memories and laughs as a family. However, the next month we found out she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. When our family found out the news, we were shocked and completely devastated. You hear about stories all the time of people you know who have been diagnosed, but when it happens to someone in your immediate family that you are incredibly close to its heart breaking. I remember the day she told me the news and the first thing I thought of was how could she be so strong finding out such horrific news. If there is anything you should know about my mom, she is a fighter. 

My mom has helped me in so many ways in life and to see her go through this was earth shattering. I remember countless nights driving home from work crying my eyes out in the car thinking of every possibility imaginable. However, my Mom is such a strong, resilient, compassionate and loving person and if there is anyone in the world who would take on this courageous battle, its her. In July of 2022 she underwent successful surgery to remove the tumours. From there, she went into a recovery phase where everyone played an integral part of her healing. We are so grateful for all of the support we got from friends and family messaging and visiting the house, to people sending meals for all of us. We are truly blessed to have the support system we have had and continue to have. I am happy to say that my mom has healed a ton, but just because her tumours are gone does not mean she can go back to the way things were before. We are proud to join her on her Thunder Road to Triumph.
