PEI: Cathy's Dream Team - CIBC Run for the Cure

PEI

Cathy's Dream Team

In November of 2023, I went for what I thought was my first of many routine mamograms.  I was wrong. I was called back the next day and soon after diagnosed with breast cancer.

Hearing the word "Cancer"  is terrifying and as a single mom of three sweet girls, it was impossible not to go down some dark holes in those first few weeks.

Thankfully I am surrounded by the most amazing family and friends. My parents, sisters, best friend, aunts, uncles, brothers in law, cousins, neices, nephews, friends, co-workers and neighbors truly went above and beyond to make sure that the girls and I were supported in every possible way throughout this journey and even still.

The staff of the Diagnostic Imaging Department at the QEH were amazingly kind and caring. They supported me throught this process helping me to understand what was going on.  The compassion they showed to me and my family will never be forgotten.

In January of 2024, I underwent a double masectomy, a decision I have not regretted for a single second. I can not stress enough the importance of early detection and routine screening.

I fully recognize that I am one of the lucky ones, my cancer was detected very early and with surgery and some ongoing medication I am blessed to be cancer free.

On October 6th I will walk with my amazing friends and family for all those touched by breast cancer and in some small way pay forward the love and kindness that has been shown to me.

With your help, I can reach my fundraising goal and make a life-changing difference for so many people. Every dollar I raise will fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and support programs and services for those impacted by this disease.

Please donate today. I believe better treatment options and survival outcomes are possible. Together, we can give Canadians impacted by breast cancer a reason to have hope. And we can help change the future for all.

Thank you! I appreciate your generous support.
