On January 7, 2016, I heard the words nobody wants to hear: "It IS a cancer." What followed was a whirlwind of tests, results, and a mastectomy no later than January 27, 2016.

Chemo happened. Radiation happened. I was also referred for a salpingo-oophorectomy given that the tumour tested 100% for hormonal receptors. I was fortunate enough to undergo that surgery at the beginning of December 2016 so I was able to ring in 2017 with a fresh start so-to-speak.

I am surviving today because of advances in treatments. I am surviving today because of women (and men!) who agreed to medical trials for new treatments. I am surviving today because some pretty fantastic people chose to be researchers, doctors, nurses and volunteers.
