On October 6th Team Temple will be running to honor the life of my beautiful mom, Nancy Temple.  She was a mom, wife, Grandma, sister and friend to many, and her life impacted all of us for the better.  Raising funds towards finding a cure for breast cancer is one way we can try to bring meaning to the sadness and loss.

Nancy had her first breast cancer diagnosis in 2000, she went 19 years with no further signs of cancer until 2019 when a new breast cancer was found.  In those 19 cancer free years, her 2 sisters and daughter would also be diagnosed with breast cancer.  Her younger sister Karen York passed away from the disease in 2018, three years later in 2021, her other youngest sister would also succumb to the disease. 

In 2019, this new primary breast cancer was caught early and treated with what we thought at the time was the best course of action, another round of radiation treatment like she had in 2000.  Not knowing that 5 years later, those radiation treatments for both breast cancers would cause a new cancer in her lungs to form.  This last cancer diagnosis was too advanced and sadly my mom passed on May 20th, 2024, a short 2 months after the lung cancer diagnosis.  While it was not a metastasized breast cancer like her 2 younger sisters, I feel that had it not been for the treatments she had for breast cancer, this would not have happened.  This is why I run to find a cure for breast cancer: to find better treatments that don't have the risks and side effects that could lead to even more serious cancers and so my daughter and my sister's daughter's do not have to carry fear about what could happen to them in the future.
