Some people still think breast cancer is not one of the "bad" cancers.  
While there have been many inroads made on treating breast cancer, there is still a long way to go. As a survivor myself and a member of a breast cancer survivor dragon boat team, I have seen first hand the many different paths this awful disease can take. I know people who have lost their battle with the disease the first time through, I know people who have reoccurrences of the disease, beginning treatments a second, third time or more. And then we have Metastatic Breast Cancer. A diagnosis of stage 4 cancer that is throughout your body and has to be treated with many different drug therapies, often times leading to chemotherapy and life expectancies of usually 2-5 years at best. This is the one I lost my beloved sister in law to. It was 24 years after her first diagnosis and she was gone within 2 years of being diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC). I still miss her every day.
I consider myself very lucky to be in my eighth year of survivorship.  I try to pay it forward and this campaign is one of the ways I do that.
By participating in this year’s Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure,  I’m joini members of my team in trying to raise money for research in Metastatic Breast Cancer.
