Metastatic Breast Cancer - We Are FamiLui
This is my Metastatic Breast Cancer story- https://rethinkbreastcancer.com/life-from-stage-0-to-stage-4/
2022 marks the 6th year since my initial breast cancer diagnosis and 3 years living with Stage IV breast cancer or Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC).
Every day, aroud 76 Canadians will hear the words “you have breast cancer.” While these Canadians are living longer, healthier lives after a breast cancer diagnosis, but there is still so much work to be done. Breast Cancer is incurable when it metastasizes to other organs, it is the sad reality I have to live with, but together we can change this!!!
From the METAvivor website:
“100% of breast cancer deaths occur because of metastasis, and almost 100% of people whose breast cancer has metastasized will die from it. In the United States alone, this means that more than 40,000 vibrant lives are lost each year.
Despite these stark realities, the popular breast cancer fundraising movements give on average only 2-5% of their research funds to researching metastasis. Instead, their primary focus is on prevention, which does nothing to help those already diagnosed, and early detection, which does not impact those facing the ultimate death sentence of stage 4 breast cancer. And while only 6% - 10% of initial breast cancer diagnoses are metastatic, 30% of patients diagnosed with earlier stage breast cancer will eventually develop stage 4 breast cancer and die.”
From the Canadian Cancer Society:
"It is estimated that about 1 in 8 Canadian women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime and 1 in 34 will die from it."
Every dollar makes a difference. All funds raised by our team: Metastatic Breast Cancer - We Are FamiLui, will be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society's Metastatic Futures Funds.
In 2018, CCS directed $3.8 million or 33% of its total breast cancer research investment towards research focused on Metastatic Breast Cancer (mBC).
Together, we can change the future of breast cancer. Please join our team and run together, wherever you are in Canada on Oct 2nd, 2022, or donate to our team page:
