USports - Shoot for the Cure

UVIC Vikes

Our Vikes basketball team is once again participating in the U Sports Shoot for the Cure initiative! Shoot for the Cure was launched in 2007 to raise funds and support for the Canadian Cancer Society. This initiative is particularly important to our Vikes program, as it was originally created in support of former Vikes Head Coach and Hall of Famer Kathy Shields during her battle against breast cancer. Each year, funds raised through Shoot for the Cure support gold standard breast cancer research in areas of risk reduction, screening, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Since its inception, Shoot for the Cure has raised over $1.59 million in donations by all 48 U Sports basketball programs.

This year, our Vikes fundraising efforts will take place from November 14th-24th , with our campaign culminating at the Shoot for the Cure game on Thursday, November 23rd. Vikes Women's Basketball players will shoot 100 free throws each, and are seeking pledges from supporters for every made free throw; our team goal is to raise $2500. Additionally, at our game on November 23rd, we will have a number of in-game promotions, including 'Stats for a Cure', where corporate and other interested donors can pledge and match amounts for made 3-pt shots, total rebounds and team assists.

Please pledge us and help us reach our fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.

Thanks for your support!
