Cancer can suck the life out of you.
Or not.
It can also motivate people like Marijke Nel to make a bigger difference in the lives of others.

When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, her response was to identify a challenge through which she could fuel her own courage to get through the necessary chemotherapy and radiation treatments, while inspiring fellow cancer fighters and helping the Canadian Cancer Society to support them.

The challenge which Marijke took on is to ride a dirt bike in the Promation Corduroy Enduro, Canada’s toughest race, in September 2021 (2020 raised postponed due to COVID-19)
It is a gruelling race over 300km of technical terrain, during which she would be on the bike for 5-6 hours each day for 2 consecutive days.

“This is a terrible disease”, she says. “It breaks people’s spirits and it touches many lives around the person with the diagnosis. I would very much like to encourage those affected by cancer to persevere in the fight.
The goal of riding the Corduroy Enduro would require me to continue conquering fears and pushing boundaries as a way of identifying with the daily struggles of those people.
In the process I would like to support the Canadian Cancer Society. The ways in which their work eases the suffering on many different levels is something I have personally witnessed.”
