There are many reasons why I relay.

First, I had a positive experience as a volunteer the past two years. As a volunteer setting up and working security, I was able to see the energy, passion and commitment of the participants and their teams at the event. The magic in the air, at that time, told me that I had to take this to the next level and enter a team.

The second reason for being part of the Relay For Life came from a lesson learned from a young woman. When she was 13 years old, she was the primary caregiver for her mother who was battling cancer. After two years, her mother passed away. When her mother's courageous battle ended, she knew she had to pick up her mother's torch and continue her battle for her.

The third and most important reason for participating in this relay was to honor my dad, Walter V. Boras. Ten years ago my father passed away from liver cancer. Therefore, on June 12, 2009, I will walk, run, and jog in memory of my father who was a special man in my life and is dearly missed.

We have all been touched in some way by cancer. By supporting and participating in the Relay For Life, we are all carrying the torches to confront this deadly disease. Please make a pledge so that we can put an end to this horrible disease that has robbed the lives of so many dear people.
