Every two years, Oakville Trafalgar High School, the school where I have worked for 25 years, holds a Relay For Life fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society.  The school has been very successful at organizing a large, community-wide event.  In fact, it is the top fundraising school in Canada.  I especially enjoy seeing students demonstrate their leadership skills and organize the fundraising, speakers, ceremonies, food and entertainment for a 12-hour event for over 1000 people.

In the past, I have supported the event by assisting and supervising students.  This year, I will also be participating in the event's relay and fundraising directly.  It is the first fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society since my mother, Rosemary Proctor, passed away.  This year feels especially close to home.
