About the Radiothon

VOCM and the Canadian Cancer Society are hosting a radiothon this year!

On Thursday, November 16, starting at 7 a.m., VOCM will broadcast live for 24 hours from Daffodil Place. This radiothon supports the One Night Stand Against Cancer campaign, which raises money for Daffodil Place.

We are kindly asking Newfoundland and Labradorians to pick up the tab for a night at Daffodil Place. It costs the Canadian Cancer Society $100 per night to provide a guest of Daffodil Place with affordable comfort and care. Accommodation includes 3 hot meals plus snacks daily, transportation between appointments, evening entertainment, and emotional and practical support. Daffodil Place eases the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis and helps someone focus on their treatment.

The success of this campaign depends on the generosity and support we receive from individuals and local businesses.

About the host

Our annual Give Today, Give a Night Radiothon will take place on November 16. Greg Smith, Claudette Barnes, Gerri-Lynn Mackey, and Ben Murphy of the VOCM team will broadcast live for 24 hours from Daffodil Place, to support people who need a home away from home during their cancer treatments.

Allan Hawco

Allan Hawco is one of Canada’s most recognizable stars. He is well known for starring in the hit CBC television comedy-drama Republic of Doyle and executive produces one of Canada’s leading shows, Son of a Critch (Season 1 and 2). Allan has appeared in many other acclaimed television shows and movies, including Murdoch Mysteries, H20, Caught, Trojan Horse, Moonshine, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Frontier, Quicksand and Sullivan’s Crossings.

Allan Hawco has been the Honourary Chair of the One Night Stand Against Cancer campaign since 2015.
