About the campaign

What is One Night Stand Against Cancer?

Someone who hears “you have cancer” should not be concerned about where they will stay while receiving cancer treatment. But for people living outside of St. John’s, it can be a serious cause of worry. Fortunately, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is here to help.

Daffodil Place, located in St. John’s, has been a home away from home for 14 years. It is a comfortable and affordable place to stay for people who must travel for cancer treatment. For only $30 per night, Daffodil Place provides:

  • a safe and comfortable place to stay
  • three hot meals per day
  • transportation to and from medical appointments.

One Night Stand Against Cancer helps the Canadian Cancer Society keep the costs down for those impacted by cancer. The operating cost of Daffodil Place to CCS is over $1 million annually. A $100 donation covers the tab of a cancer patient or caregiver for one night.

Where is the donation going?

Daffodil Place is a home away from home for people who must travel to St. John’s for cancer treatment. Since July 2009, 8,424 people impacted by cancer from 482 communities have stayed at Daffodil Place. As of April 2023, guests have stayed over 100,000 nights at Daffodil Place since opening in 2009.

Your donation of $100 will cover:

  • one night of comfortable accommodations
  • three hot meals plus snacks and beverages daily
  • transportation to and from cancer treatments
  • emotional and practical support services
  • evening entertainment

VOCM and the Canadian Cancer Society are hosting a radiothon this year!

On Thursday, November 16, starting at 7 a.m., VOCM will broadcast live for 24 hours from Daffodil Place. The Give Today, Give a Night Radiothon supports the One Night Stand Against Cancer campaign, which raises money for Daffodil Place.

We are kindly asking Newfoundland and Labradorians to pick up the tab for a night at Daffodil Place. It costs CCS $100 per night to provide a guest of Daffodil Place with affordable comfort and care. Accommodation includes 3 hot meals plus snacks daily, transportation to and from treatments, evening entertainment, and emotional and practical support. Daffodil Place eases the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis and helps someone focus on their treatment.

The success of this campaign depends on the generosity and support we receive from individuals and local businesses.

Please pick up the tab to support people in the province when they need it most.
